Michael D. Kaplan is an Equity Partner of Kaplan Law Group, P.A. Michael was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and lived in Indiana, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey before finishing high school in Boca Raton, Florida.
Education & Licenses
After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Pre-Law from The Pennsylvania State University in 1993, Michael went on to earn his Juris Doctor in 1998 from Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law.
Michael was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1998 and is licensed to practice before all courts of the State of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Associations
Michael has been a member of FAPIA (Florida Association of Public Insurance Adjusters) for a number of years as an Associate Member and Bronze Sponsor. Additionally, he joined the Florida Justice Association, which is a highly influential and reputable organization of plaintiff attorneys in Florida.
Former Insurance Defense Attorney
For approximately the first ten years of his practice, Michael defended various insurance companies and insureds in personal injury and property damage claims; thus, he gained immeasurable knowledge as to how insurance companies process claims and handle coverage matters. In 2009, Michael joined his wife’s practice thereby forming Kaplan Law Group, P.A.
Areas of Practice
Since that time, the majority of his practice has been focused on assisting home and business owners with their property damage claims against insurance companies. Michael also represents plaintiffs in personal injury matters.
Courtroom Experience
Michael has tried cases in both State and Federal court. He often handles the Firm’s appeals which benefits clients by having the same appellate counsel as the client’s trial counsel. Michael has argued before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and the Florida Supreme Court.
